For many, many years, my New Year's tradition (versus resolutions) has been to toss out the junk and reorganize everything in my bedroom. A symbolic clean start. I'm a little behind this year — doin' things more meticulously — because I've realized the desire to put down roots here at the apartment — you know — for now.
At the moment our bedroom looks like I threw a tantrum — except for the cozy corner shown above. And since I brought up corners — I finally got the granny square down! It just took me two years. It was so super easy and made so much sense that I actually got kind of scared. I mean, what the hell was wrong with me before? Although, I did use a bit of magic this time!
While I was finishing up the Ripple I started thinking of ideas for my next big crochet blanket. You know, the one I'll say will be complete by the summer of next year — but in reality, it will be a 40th birthday present to myself. And I came up with two!
One of 'em is the simple three-color granny square in the basket above. I wanted to go with the smaller crayon box after the Technicolor Ripple. And yes — I'm aware that Everyone and their Drug Dealer is obsessed with this color combination right now — but I've loved it since I was around six years old and I'm looking for the photos to prove it. In fact, this granny square blanket is inspired by my favorite bed comforter from nineteen eighty-one.
The second blanket is inspired by something very close by. It will have more sides and more colors than the granny square. And I'll have more details on that later.
Wishing You (and your drug dealer) A Happy New Year!

I love your cosy corner there! I also do the New Year's tossing of all the junk. It's a good tradition.
Have you seen the Attic 24 blog? You want to talk amazing grannies and color to drool over, her site is kind of like porn for color lovers. Trust me, check it out!

So much organization! I am feeling inspired to join you ... but cleaning the craft cave only results in me crafting (and my daughter stealing my supplies). I am jumping on that Granny Square bandwagon. I have always loved them, but I was afraid they would be hard. I was TOTALLY confused the first time, and I ended up with ... something NOT a granny square. I should blog it or this comment will be too long!

Those are some happy, feel-good colors!
You had some fantastic taste at the age of six :)
Keep it up, everyone will envy it just as they do the Ripple!

I love the magic loop! It's great for hats crocheted from the top down, since you can eliminate that hole problem.
I like granny squares well enough, but I hate joining them. :(
Now, what's this about a multi-sided mystery blanket??

The granny square colors remind me of the colors on your first two-wheeler ;-)

Rainy ~ Thanks! I love knitting in that corner. Can't wait to be more productive there. Yes, I love Lucy's crocheting and photography!
Carrie ~ I know, I've been trying granny squares off and on for YEARS and finally got it. Still don't know how to do it by heart, though.
Hope ~ Ha Ha! Thanks! I don't know, that ripple is very popular. It might take a few projects before any has that kind of fame again. =)
Tami ~ I wish I had known of the Magic Loop years ago. Makes crocheting in the round so much easier and cleaner. I will annnounce the mystery blanet soon. ;)
Mom ~ I found the photos proving I love these colors. And I did love that bike, but not as much as my blue one with the basket.
