Granny Smith :: Crafting with the Classics

Hello again to the eccentric Smith family and their fabulously eclectic furnished Missouri home! For a few months now I'd been a bit lost motivation-wise with my Meet Me in St. Louis afghan. I had wanted an elaborate mix of squares, but I was having trouble thinking of a way for it not to look like just a mess! There needed to be a repetitive design element to bring the blanket together and give the eyes a break. Then in a caffeinated-state of creativity, inspiration hit me! The vibrant colors throughout the film is set against the backdrop of a coffee and cream palette combination!

To represent the interior of the Smith's Victorian home, I'm using the more natural hues of Red Heart Yarn in Coffee, Cafe and Aran for tricolor granny squares to frame the kaleidoscopic blocks. This has helped me get back on the trolley track tremendously! Now my challenge is blending the traditional granny squares with something more unconventional. Because to me, that's how I see the Smith Family: a combination of traditional and unconventional, but still a happy, loving family.
